Social Media Can Lead to Self-Harm
The growing use of social media can lead to self-harm for many people, and the reasons vary from person to person. Sometimes it is a case of a harmless flirtation gone too far. When this happens people, who are suffering from mental illness find themselves in constant fear of being rejected or losing a friendship to someone who only likes to joke around. This is especially true of those who have bipolar disorder.
However, when it leads to more serious issues such as self-harm, there is a clear cause and effect for everything that goes on. If you are continually talked about leaving your house because you don’t feel safe, chances are good that you will never leave your house. It can lead to a mental breakdown if you ignore the constant attacks.
But what happens when you decide to fight back? Is it possible that the attacks will lead to even greater levels of mental instability? There are people with bipolar disorder who have killed people because they were about to lose control.
In all cases it is important not to try to understand how the Internet can contribute to self-harm. It is not a question of whether or not it can cause mental illness, but how it can make the problem worse. If you have self-harm symptoms, you should consult your doctor before taking any steps towards self-harm. Even if it is just a joke, you want to be sure that the self-harm doesn’t lead to something more serious.
